Obituary for Jeanette Kathryn Siglin (Aston)

Jeanette Kathryn (Aston) Siglin, 92, of Brodheadsville passed away on Monday, November 17, 2014 surrounded by her loving family.

She was the wife of the late Russell Shaffer and the late Ronald W. Siglin.

Born in Springbrook, PA, she was a daughter of the late George and Irene (Shinert) Aston. She was one of ten children and the oldest daughter.

She and her husband Ronald were foster parents for sixty four children, eventually adopting three. She and her husband were named Foster Parents of the Year in PA for twelve consecutive years.

Jeanette worked at Brookmont Health Care Center in Effort for ten years. Prior to that she had worked as a waitress, in a paint factory, a plastic factory and a transformer plant. She had also been a paper carrier for the Pocono Record for over ten years.

She enjoyed crafts - making dolls and silk flowers and beautiful wreaths at holiday time. She also enjoyed cooking, flower gardening and being outdoors.

She was a strong supporter of Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in NY, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Jeanette was a member of the Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church in Brodheadsville.

She is survived by eleven children, Irene Zacharias of Kresgeville, Russell "Bucky" Shaffer of Franklin, NJ, Franklin "Frank" Shaffer of New York City, Richard Shaffer of Nazareth, Debby York of Brodheadsville, Sandy Adams of Washington DC, Clarissa Burch of Stroudsburg, Robyn Warner of Gilbert, Robert Siglin of Brodheadsville, Mary Lou Morrison of Brodheadsville and Shirley Keiper of Clifton, NJ; two sisters, Evelyn Litz of Springbrook and Betty Shotwell of Duryea; twenty one grandchildren, twenty nine great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Sparky.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 21 at 11:00 AM from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209 Brodheadsville, with Rev. Frank Pons from the Pen Argyl Assembly of God Church officiating. Burial will be in Green Ridge Cemetery, McIlhaney. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
