Anita Gregory Wernet, 91, of Bangor and formerly of Effort died Thursday, December 4 in the Slate Belt Nursing Center, Bangor.

She was the wife of the late Franklin H. Wernet who passed away in 1996.

Born in Bristol, England, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Frank and Gladys M. (Gregory) Moysey. Anita came to the United States in February of 1946 as a war bride with their infant son Frank.

Anita was an accomplished seamstress who enjoyed sewing, quilting & crafting. She had worked for Better Made Manufacturing in Effort for many years. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Jake Buskirk Plumbing in Effort and at the Effort General Store. Anita was an avid reader.

She is survived by two sons, Frank J. Wernet and his wife Joanne of Howard and John G. Wernet and his wife Sharan of Kunkletown; a daughter, Linda J. Griggs and her husband Dale of Kilmarnock, VA; six grandchildren, Tammy vanDongen and her husband Henk of Monroe, GA, Amanda Campbell and her husband Larry of State College, Robin Getz and her husband Butch of Kresgeville, Greg Wernet and his wife Val of Gilbert, Suzanne Hopkins and her husband Damon of Scottsville, VA and Clint Griggs of Hampstead, MD and twelve great grandchildren, Henk vanDongen, Adrianna vanDongen Pieter vanDongen, Willem vanDongen, Danika Getz, Kailyn Getz, Ty Hopkins, Jasper Hopkins, Samantha Campbell, Jessica Campbell, Derrick Campbell and Ayla Wernet.

Memorial services will be held at 6:00 PM on Saturday, December 13 from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209 Brodheadsville, with Rev. Manuel Stivers officiating. Cremation will have taken place in the H. G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.
