John J. Bergen, 84, of Effort, died Saturday, February 28 in his home.

He was the husband of the late Betty (Linse) Bergen.

Born in Brooklyn, NY he was a son of the late William and Mary (Flynn) Bergen.

John was an iron worker for local 361 in Brooklyn, NY for fifty years, retiring in 1998.

He loved to fish and boat and he was a member of the Veruna Boat Club in Sheepshead Bay and a past Commander of the US Power Squadron. He was an avid woodworker, making furniture and wood carvings.

He was a US Navy veteran.

Surviving are three daughters, Margaret Seligman of Stroudsburg, Janice Ellsworth of Ridgewood, NJ and Laurie Wright of Green Brook, NJ; a sister, Jane Lentino of Fresh Meadows, NY; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 3 from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209 Brodheadsville, with Rev. Ann Melot officiating. Cremation will follow in the H. G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg. A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
