Obituary for Allen E. Hawk

Allen E. Hawk, 88, of Kunkletown died Monday, April 6 in his home.

He was the husband of Virginia "Ginny" (Kresge) Hawk. They would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on May 7 of this year.

Born in Saylorsburg, he was a son of the late Ezra and Eva (Kresge) Hawk.

Allen was a truck driver for Silver Line Trucking in Wind Gap for thirty five years, retiring in 1989. He also worked as a carpenter for several area contractors.

He was a WW II Army combat veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert and the VFW Post 7134 in Palmerton. Allen was a life member of the West End Ambulance Assn. and he served as a West End Fair Director for many years.

He was a member of Salem St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kresgeville.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Mitchell Hawk and his wife Judy of Winter Haven, FL, Darlene Matthews and her husband John of Dalton, Glenn Hawk and his wife Susan of Conway, SC and Roger Hawk and his wife Margaret of Manchester; a sister Grace Borger of Wind Gap; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, John Edgar Matthews Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 9 from Salem St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kresgeville with Rev. Deborah Scheffey officiating. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 12:00 PM until the time of the service in the church. Burial with full military honors will take place at 9:30 AM on Friday, April 10 in Buena Vista Cemetery, Brodheadsville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 63 N. Franklin St., Wilkes Barre, PA 18701.

The Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209 Brodheadsville, is in charge of arrangements.
