Obituary for William P. Widdicombe

William P. Widdicombe, 78, of Brodheadsville, died Friday, April 1 in Brookmont Health Care Center, Effort.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late George and Kathryn (Hauck) Widdicombe.

He had worked for Western Electric in Allentown for over twenty years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

He was a US Navy veteran serving on the USS Wyandot AKA 92 which established the first base (Ellsworth Station) in Antarctica. He also served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary and crewed on the HMS Bounty. He was a member of the American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert.

A real outdoorsman, he was a life member of the NRA. He was of the Catholic faith.

He is survived by a sister, Frances A. Mabus of Easton; a brother, Thomas G. Widdicombe of Catasauqua; a son, Paul W. G. Widdicombe of Allentown; a daughter, Patricia L. Widdicombe of Allentown and four grandchildren.

Noe services are planned at this time. Cremation will take place in the H. G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.

The Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209 Brodheadsville, is in charge of arrangements.
