Francis E. "Tex" Merwine, 85, of Effort passed away in his home on Friday, August 19, 2016.

He was the husband of the late Shirley M. (Cramer) Merwine.

Born in Effort , he was a son of the late Marshall and Irene (Brong) Merwine.

Tex was a superintendent at Nyleve in Emmaus and he built several bridges in northeast PA. He worked at Nyleve for over thirty five years, retiring in 1992.

His greatest joys were camping with his wife, sitting on his front porch, going out to breakfast and his John Deere tractor.

He is survived by five children, Susan Merwine, Francis E. Merwine Jr., Sandra Merwine Bartashunas, Jeffrey Merwine and his wife Patricia and Shelly DeHaven and her husband Gary; six grandchildren, Sheena Merwine, Amber Johnson, Christopher Merwine, Kristin Bartashunas, Kody Merwine and Kennedy DeHaven; three great grandchildren, Carmi Gubbiotti, Maddox Johnson and Isla Johnson; a sister, Nettie Romascavage and a daughter-in-law, Mary Williams. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard L. Williams, a grandson, Richard F. Williams and by a brother Warren Merwine.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, August 23 from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209 Brodheadsville, with Rev. David Felker officiating. Burial will be in Buena Vista Cemetery, Brodheadsville. A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service.
