Obituary for Carl F. Kunkle

Carl F. Kunkle, 89, of Effort passed away on Monday, February 27 in his home.

He was the husband of Dawn (Lightcap) Kunkle. They had observed their 22nd wedding anniversary in October.

Born in Effort, he was a son of the late Harry and Elsie (Scheller) Kunkle.

Carl had been a school bus driver in the Pleasant Valley School District for nineteen years, retiring in 1992. Prior to that he had worked as a short order cook at the Effort Diner and at several other places. He had also worked at one time for John Rinker TV's installing antennas. His real passion was cutting firewood.

Carl was a volunteer firefighter and an EMT with the West End Ambulance. He served as president of the West End Ambulance Assn. for seventeen years. Carl enjoyed having his family around and he loved his dogs.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Linda Burger and her husband Robert of Adams, NY, Barbara Prince and her husband Jerry of Saylorsburg, Carlene Flyte and her husband Robert of Effort and Donna Berger and her fiancé Tim Page of Effort; two brothers,, Joseph Kunkle and his wife Bettie of Kunkletown and Kenneth Kunkle and his wife Ella of Tucson, AZ; seven grandchildren, Ricky, Tammy, Michael, Kimberly, Kelly, Justin and Cassandra and twelve great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Floyd, Earl and Larry Kunkle.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 5 from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209 Brodheadsville, with Rev. David Felker officiating. Burial will be in Gilbert Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Saturday, March 4 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and on Sunday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
