Obituary for Joaquim Pires

Joaquim Pires, 76, of Effort, passed away on Saturday, November 25 in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono.

He was the husband of Maria E. (Toledo) Pires. They had observed their 40th wedding anniversary on November 15.

Born in Portugal, he was a son of the late Joaquim and Matilde Pires.

Joaquim had worked as a union painter in New York City for forty years, retiring in 2003. He loved western movies and he enjoyed doing word search puzzles.

He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Gilbert.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Reyna Ramandi of Flanders, NJ, Matilda Pires of Bayonne, NJ and Jacqueline Pires of Keyport, NJ and six grandchildren, Amanda Reyes, Alexander Reyes, Amir Ramandi, Delilah Monclova, Joseph Cabrerra and Tatiana Monclova.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM on Saturday, December 2 from Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Quinnan as celebrant. Burial will follow in Buena Vista Cemetery, Brodheadsville. A viewing will be held on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209 Brodheadsville.
