Obituary for John Joseph Carfagna

John Joseph Carfagna, 66, of Albrightsville, passed away on Wednesday, November 29 in his home surrounded by his family.

He was the husband of Roseann (Goodyear) Carfagna. They celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary in April.

Born in Staten Island, NY, he was the son of Anne (Portelli) Carfagna and the late Joseph Carfagna.

John worked as an assistant engineer for the NYC Transit Authority in Brooklyn, NY for twenty two years before retiring in 1999.

He graduated from Port Richmond High School in Staten Island, NY in 1968. John was a member of a bowling club and the East Shore Softball League. He was a die-hard New York Yankees fan and his favorite player that he idolized was Mickey Mantle.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons, Kenneth LaMantia of Savannah, GA, Gregory LaMantia Sr. of Spring Hill, FL; three daughters, AnneMarie Long of Kunkletown, Michelle Powierski of Albrightsville, Gina La Rosa of Clermont, FL; a brother, Thomas Carfagna of Egg Harbor, NJ; two sisters, Barbara Updale and Joanne Carfagna, both of Staten Island, NY; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 4 at 10:00 AM from Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, with Rev. Michael Quinnan as celebrant. Cremation will follow in the H. G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg. A viewing will be held on Saturday, December 2 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Sunday, December 3 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209, Brodheadsville. Burial of John's cremated remains will take place at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 9 in Buena Vista Cemetery, Brodheadsville.
