Obituary for Evelyn M. Smith (Rabenold)

Evelyn M. Smith (Rabenold)
Evelyn M. Smith, 93, of Gilbert, and formerly of Kunkletown, passed away on Monday, January 15 in the Summit at Blue Mountain Nursing & Rehab Center.

She was the wife of the late Roy R. Smith who passed away in 2007.

Born in Palmerton on January 22, 1924 she was a daughter of the late Caleb and Hilda (Greenwald) Rabenold.

Evelyn worked for Scotty's Fashions in Little Gap for forty years before retiring. She had also worked at Lee Fashions in Kunkletown.

She was a member of St. Matthew's United Church of Christ in Kunkletown and the Chestnut Ridge Senior Citizens in Kunkletown.

Evelyn's greatest joy in life was her family. She was always so proud to introduce her kids, grandkids, great grandkids or great great grandkids to everyone. She was a avid race fan starting with local dirt tracks. She and her husband Roy (Blue Eyes) owned and operated the "Triple Nickel" 555 for many years. She watched and cheered for their many drivers which included names like Freddy Adams, Warren Mutter, Marty Acker, George Sleight, Billy Tanzosh, Bobby Bottcher, Larry Voss, Freddy Fehr and Johnny Caprill. When her boys started racing go-karts, she never missed a race. Her boys went into modified dirt racing with the "Double Nickel: 55 and "Triple Nickel" 555 for several years and there wasn't a prouder mom anywhere. She then went on to her granddaughter, several grandsons and a great granddaughter's racing that she followed. She would follow NASCAR each week and would cheer for her favorite driver.

She was one of six children and is survived by her sister, Arlene Burke in CA. She is also survived by her six loving children, Sandra Kresge and her husband Delbert of Kunkletown, Diane Sniffin Stuart of Gilbert, Robert R. Smith of Gilbert, Richard Smith and his wife Laura of Palmerton, Randy Smith and his wife Denise of Kunkletown and Joanne Buck of Fredericksburg; twenty grandchildren, thirty three great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Sadie (Tootie) Smith. She was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Angela Smith and Ashley Buck and by a great grandson, Rowan Kresge.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 20 from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209 Brodheadsville, with Rev. Suzanne Brooks-Cope officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in St. Matthew's Cemetery, Kunkletown. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Luke's Hospice-Development Office, 801 Ostrum St., Bethlehem, PA 18015 or to The Summit at Blue Mountain Nursing Center, 211 N. 12th St., Lehighton, PA 18235.
