Obituary for Helen Arsula Mackes

Helen Arsula  Mackes
Helen Arsula Mackes, 87, of Kunkletown, passed away on Wednesday, March 14 in her home surrounded by her family.

Born in Kunkletown, she was the daughter of the late Simon Mackes and the late Elsie (Christman) Mackes.

Helen worked as a Realtor for Koehler-Marvin Reality in Lehighton for many years. Prior to that, she was a factory worker in Pen Argyl. She also worked as a tax collector for Eldred Township.

She was a long time active member of the West End Democratic Club and also the Red Hat Society. She was also involved with the Eldred Township Historical Society and the Eldred Township Veterans Memorial Group.

She is survived by her son, William K. Mackes and wife Shirley of Derby, KS; her daughter, Diana Berhel and husband Robert of Easton; a sister, Lorraine Everett of Lehighton; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Allen Mackes, Leon Mackes, Morris Mackes, and Robert Mackes, and a sister, Arlene Shaffer.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 17 at 11:00 AM from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209, Brodheadsville, with Rev. Debra Taylor officiating. A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 17 from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be in St. Matthews Cemetery, Kunkletown.
