Obituary for Asher M. Smith

Asher M. Smith, 93, of Kunkletown, passed away on Wednesday, May 30 in Palmerton Hospital.

He was the loving husband of the late Helen (Urda) Smith.

Born in Kunkletown, he was the son of the late Arlington Smith and the late Eva (Meckes) Smith.

Asher was a member of the St. Matthew's UCC in Kunkletown.

Throughout his life he was known as a hard and dedicated worker, working as a bus driver in the morning, carpentry work throughout the day, and finished the evenings cutting hair in his own barber shop.

Asher was a World War II Navy veteran serving with the Sea B's. He was known for his love of baseball, groundhog hunting, and fishing. He was a life member of the Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club. Asher had a great love for his family and was a devoted friend to many. He will be deeply missed by all.

He is survived by a son, David J. Smith and wife Charlene of Rhode Island; a daughter, Helen Price and husband Larry of McMichaels; seven grandchildren, Malvin and Matthew Meckes, Michael Smith, Mary Reph Anderson, Elizabeth Price Zacharias, Joshua Smith, and Melissa Price; ten great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Darleen Meckes Reph, a son, Asher J. Smith, and two grandchildren, Todd Meckes and Stacey Smith.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 2 at 10:00 AM in St. Matthew's Cemetery, Kunkletown with Rev. Suzanne Brooks-Cope officiating. The American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert will conduct military honors following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club, P.O. Box 596 Kunkletown, PA 18058 or to the St. Matthew's UCC, 102 Church Road, Kunkletown, PA 18058.
