Obituary for Alfred A. Bartholomew

Alfred A. Bartholomew, 84, of Saylorsburg, passed away Tuesday, March 23 in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono.

He was the loving husband of Phyllis L. (Buss) Bartholomew. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in May of 2020.

Born in East Allen Township, he was the son of the late Alfred K. Bartholomew and the late Velma (Stewart) Bartholomew.

Alfred was a printer and salesman for Hughes Printing for forty four years before retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Salem Evangelical Reformed Church in Lancaster for forty nine years, and most recently was a member of the Union Congregational and United Church of Christ in Holly Hill, FL. Throughout his life, he was very active in church and the choral societies. He was a member of the Air National Guard for six years. He enjoyed playing golf, crossword puzzles, and cryptograms. He loved spending time with family playing cards and board games. Most of all, he was a loving and caring husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all of his friends and family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Lee A. Bartholomew and his wife Christine of Thatcher, AZ; a daughter, Jan E. Zelinski and her husband Jerry of Saylorsburg; three brothers, Jerome Bartholomew and his wife Helen of East Allen Township, Daniel Bartholomew of Missouri, Joshua Bartholomew and his wife Lillian of Bath; a sister, Jacqueline Markulics of Wind Gap; three grandchildren, Joshua Bartholomew, Erika Walsh and her husband Paul, Krystal Byron and her husband Chase; and three great grandchildren, twins, Maura and Clare Walsh, and Wyatt Zelinski. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Bierly, a sister-in-law, Mary Bartholomew, and two brother-in-law's, Richard L. Bierly and Rodney Markulics.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 17 at 1:00 PM at Holy Family Club in Nazareth.
