Amandus F. Smith, 96, of Kresgeville, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, May 24, surrounded by his family.
He was the loving husband of Joyce (Smale) Smith. They celebrated 72 years of marriage together in December.
Born in Walksville, he was the son of the late Amandus Smith and the late Mary (Hartman) Smith.
Amandus was a member of the Salem UCC in Gilbert. He was a supervisor for the Lehigh Valley Railroad for over forty years. He later started his own business, A.F. Smith Plumbing & Heating. Later on, he worked as the supervisor for the Monroe County Vo Tech School for over ten years. He was a World War II Army Veteran. He was a former member of the Polk Township Fire Co., and also a former President of the Bowmanstown Rod & Gun Club. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and kept fishing up until last year. He took fishing trips to Canada for over sixty years. He enjoyed spending time his wife, children, siblings, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all of his friends and family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Donald Smith and his wife Phyllis of Parryville, Calvin Smith of Gilbert, Carl Smith and his wife Anna of Palmerton; a sister, Ellen Roth of Northampton; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene Smith and Floyd Smith.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 30 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209, Brodheadsville. A memorial service with full military honors will follow at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Cremation will take place in H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.
