Bertha Eileen Mackes (Snyder), 81, of Bluffton SC, and formerly of Sciota passed away peacefully on October 14th, 2019 in Hilton Head Hospital.
Bertha was the loving wife of the late LeRoy Mackes. They celebrated 43 years of marriage together before his passing in 2003.
She was born in Saylorsburg on the 6th of January 1938. She was the daughter of the late Clayton Snyder and the late Eva (George) Snyder.
She went to school at Polk Township High School. She graduated from Bethlehem Business School in 1956. She married LeRoy Mackes on the 26th of June, 1960 in Stroudsburg, PA. She worked as a head cashier at Acme Markets. She also owned and operated a salon, and helped at the family owned Blue Ridge Drive-In theater.
Bertha was a member of the Eastern Star, Calypso Chapter. She participated and supported Walk to Emmaus and enjoyed greeting members and guests on Sunday mornings at the Church of the Palms. She was so loved by her family and friends. We are eternally grateful for our time with her. It could never have been long enough.
She is survived by her daughters, Kellie Mackes Hawk of Stroudsburg, Kathie Mackes Minger of Allentown, and Michelle Mackes Montanez of Hardeeville, SC; her brother Lester Snyder of Florida; and three grandchildren, Brittany Minger, Joshua Hawk, and Zoe Hrabanek.
A viewing will be held on Monday, October 21 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM from the Cherry Valley Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM with Rev. Paul Crikelair and Rev. Samuel Ramnit officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery, Sciota.
