Obituary for Dejean Murray

Dejean Antonio Murray, son of Mary Murray and Wilford Fontaine, was born at Kings County Hospital Monday, November 8, 1982. At the age of 39, Monday, November 7, 2022, one day before his birthday, Dejean passed away at his home in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Dejean graduated from Canarsie Highschool where he played shooting guard in junior varsity basketball and safety in varsity football. He attended Stony Brook University from 2000-2001 before moving with his family to Pennsylvania where he graduated from East Stroudsburg University earning a BS in Business Management. That same year, Dejean joined his brother, Adeon, as a financial program consultant at Pinnacle. Dejean worked with his brother as a consultant for 17 years at multiple companies including Titan, Ernst & Young, Platform Specialist, and finally Accordion.
Through the years, Dejean enjoyed playing basketball with his brother and friends, traveling the world, procuring a priceless collection of Cognacs, and ensuring that his family celebrated events together. After the birth of his daughter in 2017, she became the light of his life and the origin of most of his joyful moments. Along with 5 years of love and joy, Dejean’s final tribute to his daughter was the beautiful home he designed and built, a home they were able to enjoy together for the month preceding his death.
Dejean was a charismatic, genuine, devoted, and diligent man, who never failed to cultivate greatness in those around him. A dedicated friend at the age of 11, he gave endless support as his friend’s father battled colon cancer. Visiting every day, Dejean ensured that there were moments of joy amidst the sickness. For 3 months in the year of 2007, Dejean welcomed a different friend, struggling with homelessness, into his household. Throughout Dejean’s life, he captured the hearts of many, constantly showing all that family included friends.

Dejean’s life will be celebrated at Chelsea Sun Inn, 487 Stone Church Dr, Mt Bethel, PA 18343, on November 19 at 2:30 pm. Family and friends are invited to join in sharing fond memories, stories, and cognac.
Dejean leaves behind his daughter Yasmeen Elise Murray, his mother, Mary Murray, his father Wilford Fontaine, and his brothers Adeon Tracey, Jean Fontaine, and Lionel Fontaine. His sisters Cariann Vialva and Jennifer Fontaine. His Aunt Shirley Govia (Uncle O’neil Govia), uncles, Raymond Murray (spouse Maxine Murray), and Charles Murray (Spouse Grace Murray). A host of godchildren, cousins, and loved ones including family and friends.
