Obituary for Franklin D. "Pappy" Mackes Sr.

Franklin D. "Pappy" Mackes Sr., 78, of White Haven, passed away Thursday, December 17 in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton.

He was the loving son of the late Clark Mackes and the late Mabel (Stahley) Mackes.

Franklin was of the Methodist faith.

He was the owner/operator of DnT Trucking for over thirty years. He worked as a commercial truck driver for most of his life. He was considered by all of his friends and family as a true "jack of all trades", where he would help and fix anything that a family or friend needed done. He was a very religious man with a strong faith in the good Lord. He was also a devout republican, and proud of his Mackes heritage. Most of all, he was a loving and caring father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle. Everyone knew him as Pappy, and he always enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed by all of his friends and family.

He is survived by four sons, Jeffrey Mackes and his wife Nadine, Stephen Mackes and his wife Karin, Jon Mackes and his wife Susan, Richard Mackes and his wife Bridget; two brothers, David Mackes and his wife Judy, Eugene Mackes and his wife Cathy; six sisters, Ethel Oliff, Miriam Willis and her husband Marshall, Evelyn Fortun and her husband Charles, Patricia Nice and her husband Ray, Emma Nepert and her husband Doug, Virginia Gilbert; sixteen grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Franklin D. Mackes Jr., a grandson, Kenneth Mackes, four brothers, Clark Mackes, Jay Mackes, Paul Mackes, Charles Mackes, and two sisters, Dorothea Mackes, and Mabel Czapp.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 23 at 11:00 AM from the Buena Vista Cemetery in Brodheadsville.
