Obituary for Howard A. "Al" Kresge

Howard "Al" Kresge, 88, of McMichaels, passed away on Sunday, July 21 in Brookmont Health Care Center, Effort.

He was the husband of the late Arlene M. (Altemose) Kresge.

Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Harold and Evelyn (Calloway) Kresge.

Al was a co-owner and general manager of Sugar Hollow Homes for twenty years. Prior to that, he was a cabinet maker and later a supervisor at Edinger-Wycoff in Stroudsburg for twenty five years. He also was a farmer.

He was a very active member of McMichaels United Methodist Church and he served as the church treasurer for forty years. He played the trumpet in an orchestra, Bill Fisher's Band and also sang in the Pleasant Valley Choral Society. He was an excellent bowler and baseball player in his youth.

Al is survived by four children, Debra Muir and her husband John of Kunkletown, Dale Kresge and his wife Sue of Saylorsburg, Linda Borger and her husband Blaine of Kunkletown and Jayne Werkheiser and her husband Joe of Neola; a daughter-in-law, Jen Kresge of McMichaels; a brother, Donald Kresge of Stroudsburg; two sisters, Joan Barrie in CA and Gail Anders of Kunkletown; eleven grandchildren, Shane and Stacey Kresge, Daniel and David Muir, Eric and Ryan Kresge and Danielle Lukashewski, Meggin Borger and Kristin Heller and Sarah and Aaron Pratt; two step-grandchildren, Ken and Jona Werkheiser and fourteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Dean Kresge and by a brother, William Kresge.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 25 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209 Brodheadsville. Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 26 at 10:00 AM in McMichaels United Methodist Church with Rev. Edward Unangst officiating. Burial will follow in McMichaels Cemetery.
