Obituary for James F. Murphy Sr.
James F. Murphy Sr., 95, of Kunkletown, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Mrs. Bush's Personal Care Home.
He was the loving husband of the late Orphelia (Getz) Murphy. They celebrated many wonderful years of marriage together before her passing in 2018.
Born in Easton, he was the son of the late Homer A. Murphy and the late Mary A. (Bollinger) Murphy Clauser.
Jim attended Polk Township High School. He proudly served his country with the 7th Infantry Division in the Korean Conflict. In 1961, he became owner of Central Garage in Pocono Pines, which he operated until his retirement in 1988. During his retirement, he worked summer months at Murphy's Farm, where he spent his youth. Jim was a member of the American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert. He was a former member of the Tobyhanna Township Fire Dept. He was a member of Salem St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kresgeville. Most of all, he was a loving and caring father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all his friends and family.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Joan Purdy and her husband Frank of Effort, Janice Finnochio and her husband Richard of Indian Land, SC, Jeanne Zieger of Alburtis; a son, James F. Murphy Jr. and his wife Patricia of Effort; a brother, Neal Murphy of Kunkletown; grandchildren, Emily Purdy, Lauren West and her husband Patrick, Joel Finnochio and his wife Jennifer; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Frank "Bud" Zieger.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 15 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209, Brodheadsville. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 AM with Rev. Deborah Scheffey officiating. Full military honors will follow the service. Burial will follow in Grandview Chapel Mausoleum in Allentown.
