Obituary for Janet M. Burkett (Shafer)

Janet M. Burkett, 83, of Stroudsburg, passed away Sunday, February 21 in The Gardens for Memory Care at Easton.

She was the loving wife of the late Robert R. Burkett. They celebrated 56 years of marriage together before his passing in 2011.

Born in Saylorsburg, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Shafer and the late Dartha M. (Neal) Longyhore.

Janet was a seamstress at garment mills for many years. She also owned and operated her own business called the Sewing Nook out of her home for several years. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all of her friends and family.

She is survived by a son, Paul Allen Burkett of Stroud Township; a daughter, Diane Tanner of Texas; a brother, Elwood "Sparky" Longyhore of Saylorsburg; three grandchildren, Kari Marie Luinstra, Adam Marshal Tanner, Jason Matthew Tanner; and eight great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Walter Shafer, and a sister, Harriet Rafferty.

Due to Covid-19, services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Buena Vista Cemetery, Brodheadsville.
