Obituary for Jean F. Gerstlauer (Miller)

Jean F. Gerstlauer, 92, of Stroudsburg, passed away on Saturday, January 16 in Mrs. Bush's Personal Care Home, Kunkletown.

She was the loving wife of the late Frederick E. Gerstlauer. They had been married for 70 years at the time of his passing in 2019.

Born in Appenzell, she was a daughter of the late Jacob L. and Alma (Westcott) Miller.

Jean worked as a waitress at the former Reeders Inn for twenty seven years. Prior to that, she worked at a garment mill in Effort.

She was a member of St. Mark's Community Lutheran Church in Appenzell.

Jean liked to crochet and can. She was a great baker and she made the best pie crusts.

She is survived by a son, Frederick W. Gerstlauer in Florida; three daughters, Barbara J. Allen and her husband Grant of Stroudsburg, Janice Y. "Jen" Kresge of McMichaels and Sandra A. Possinger and her husband Paul of Blakeslee; a sister, Evelyn Altemose of Brodheadsville; seven grandchildren, Tammy, William, Shane, Jessie, Stacey, Bobbie Jo and Daniel; twelve great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Harriet Switzgabel, Pearl Weiss and Ruth Serfass; a brother Clair Miller and by her son-in-law, Dean Kresge.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, January 20 from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209 Brodheadsville, with Rev. Thomas Richards officiating. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Appenzell at the convenience of the family.
