Obituary for John Joseph "Poppy" Matwijcow Jr.

John J. "Poppy" Matwijcow Jr., 75, of Saylorsburg, passed away Tuesday, December 21 at home.

He was the loving husband of Patricia Ann (Cirigliano) Matwijcow. They had been together for sixty years and celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in April of this year.

Born in Perth Amboy, NJ, he was the son of the late John J. Matwijcow Sr. and the late Margaret Mary (Damonci) Matwijcow.

John was an Air Force Veteran, and was of the Catholic Faith.

He was a self-taught engineer and machinist in the manufacturing industry for many years. He was also a general contractor and builder. Later on, he owned and operated a gift shop and a bakery for several years. Most recently, he worked as a district sales manager for ADT in Allentown. He then retired, and shortly after came out of retirement to work as a driver for Truck Movers in Allentown. He was born and raised in New Jersey, and eventually relocated in 2002 to Nazareth, PA, to be with his family. John was considered by many to be a jack-of-all-trades who could fix anything. If you had a question or problem, he always had the answer or solution. He was an avid jokester with a wonderful sense of humor. He did all of these things while wearing a fedora with a beer in his hand. John also worked for The Arc of Lehigh & Northampton Counties for the disabled, and was very dedicated to taking care of his son. Most of all, he was a loving and caring, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all his friends and family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, John J. Matwijcow III of Saylorsburg; two daughters, Kimberly Ann Kopke and her husband David of Nazareth, Jessica Ann Clark, who was his primary caregiver, and her husband David of Nazareth; a brother, Robert Matwijcow and his wife Evelyn; two sisters, Margaret Wishinsky and her husband David, Elise Matwijcow; six grandchildren, Adrian, Cody, Emily, Isabel, Jacob, Jonathan; a granddaughter-in-law, Jasmine; two nephews, Michael and Harry Wishinsky; and a son-in-law, Christopher Garibaldi.

No services are scheduled at this time. Cremation will take place in H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the care of John's son. Family has asked to send donations to 646 Georgetown Road, Nazareth, PA 18064.
