Obituary for John J. Mellow
John J. Mellow, 78, of Pocono Lake, passed away Saturday, February 12 in Country Meadows-Bethlehem.
He was the loving husband of Linda R. (Argot) Mellow. They celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary in September of last year.
Born in Forest City, PA, he was the son of the late Fred Mellow and the late Kathryn (Dunleavy) Mellow.
John was a medical equipment repairman for Tobyhanna Army Depot for over forty years before retiring in 2007. He was a US Army Veteran. He was a former member of the Pocono Mountain Barber Shop Chorus. He also enjoyed taking care of his garden and yard, which brought him contentment and satisfaction. He was a dedicated family man and was a proud father and Pa to his children and grandchildren. Most of all, he was a sweet, loving, and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all his friends and family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Andrew Mellow of Pocono Lake; a daughter, Rachel McDermott and her husband Kevin of Saylorsburg; two brothers, James Mellow and his wife Melanie of Union Dale, Adrian Mellow of GA; two sisters, Mary Bravo of AZ, Catherine White of Union Dale; four grandchildren, Bennett, Addison, Grant, Charlotte; and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Mellow, Thomas Mellow, and a sister, Patricia Mellow.
A viewing will be held on Friday, February 18 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM from the Pocono Lake Wesleyan Church. Church services will follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Mt. Rest Cemetery, Pocono Lake.
In lieu of flowers and in memory of John, the family has requested to send donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The family thanks you in advance for making any memorial donations.
