Obituary for Joseph Peter Russo

Joseph Peter Russo, "Peter," 82, of Saylorsburg, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at home. He was the loving husband of the late Sunny (Cameron) Russo, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Andrew and Josephine (Frassica) Russo.

Joseph worked for the NYPD as a mechanic for 25 years. He proudly served in the United States Army National Guard for 6 years, posted at Fort Collins in Colorado. He was a huge fan of Jeff Gordon and also was a train enthusiast. Joseph was a talented guitarist, even performing in a band. He shared his love of music with his family. Joseph also loved animals, especially his late golden retrievers, JoJo and BoBo; he could also be seen feeding the birds and deer spaghetti in his yard. In his later years, Joseph worked as a porter for Kinsley's ShopRite and considered the staff there his second family.

Joseph is survived by his daughters: Dianne Russo Milonas and her fiancé, Glenn Peters of Hardwick, NJ; and Jeannette Russo and her significant other, Tom Barsch of Boonton, NJ; his son: Perry Russo and his wife, Miriam Cohen- Russo of Woodridge, NJ; brother: Junior Russo of North Carolina and sister: Carol Ohnmacht of North Carolina; six grandchildren: Kayla Russo, Angela Ricciotti; Alyssa Ricciotti, Emma Milonas, Jaden Szmak, and Tayla Szmak. Joseph is also survived by his extended family: James Collier and Alyce Crimaldi, and Dilek Kowal and her daughter, Selin Kowal.
Joseph is preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Sunny.

A military service will be held on Saturday, February 17th, at The American Legion, Post 927, 646 Fairgrounds Road, Gilbert PA 18331 at 10:00 A.M.
