So the year is 1970 and I am staying with Aunt Kathy and Uncle Gene in Mount Arlington, New Jersey for 2 Weeks while my parents are in Europe vacationing. Anyway, Aunt Kathy is pregnant at the time with her son Kenneth and I am about 6 years old. I am excited to be with Kathy and Gene since they are so Nice and Fun. Gene buys me a small model boat and we work on it together at night. I remember this apartment like it was yesterday. I remember that I keep asking Kathy, "when is Kenny going to be here so we can play", thinking that Kenny will be coming out in the same form as a 6 year old (ready to play and have fun). At night, we would watch the television together and Kathy would make popcorn or ice cream. I can remember Kathy crying on one occasion (for some reason), and me asking her if she was OK (to make her stop crying). Thankfully, I was able to calm her down and everything got better. My 2 weeks with Aunt Kathy and Uncle Gene were "So Very Nice".
Grandma Malek (Kathy's mother) and Uncle John (her 2nd husband) lived in Denville, NJ. In the late 1960's and early 1970's they would have barbeque's at their apartment complex in the summers, with all the Quinn family (John, Peter, Eddie, Billy and Mary). All of my cousins were there and I remember it vividly. Throwing the frisbee and working the hoola-hoop were the rage at the time and the entire family would get involved at the BBQ. It was such a Nice Time for the family.
Aunt Kathy was a Genuine person, who never spoke bad of about anyone. I have so very many fond memories of Kathy at family gatherings at my home in Stillwater, NJ during the 1970;s and 1980's. It was such a FUN time.
Anyway, so the time has come to say "Goodbye" and I will try to do so the best I can.
Here goes. Aunt Kathy----"May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, The rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand" (an Irish Blessing).
So it has been said, and Aunt Kathy I will see you and "the gang" at another place and time. Please remember wherever you are at the moment, that "I LOVE YOU" and wish things could have been entirely different for the whole family.
With ALL of my LOVE----Frederick Allegri (nephew) currently in Phoenix, Arizona
