Obituary for LaRue W. High
LaRue W. High passed away in Nazareth at Alexandria Manor on Friday at age 94 of natural causes. She was born to Alice B. Wilson and William Reuben High March 21, 1927, at home on the family farm in Effort. LaRue was proceeded in death by her parents and two sisters, who sadly passed shortly after birth. She was a faithful follower and active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effort for many decades. LaRue enjoyed singing in the church choir and participating in church functions throughout her life. At the end of every summer, she would look forward to the West End Fair. She could be found working at the church stand each day of the fair, rain or shine.
LaRue worked for almost 60 years at the Effort Diner before retiring in 2001. Sometimes she would speak Pennsylvania Dutch to some of the local regulars just for fun. LaRue also volunteered in the community throughout her life, helping with banquets at the West End Fire company. In her younger years she also worked at the Mt. Effort Diner, the Jonas Hotel, and the Garment Mill in Effort.
Above all, she loved working at her farm. She always kept herself busy around the farm with numerous projects and enjoyed taking care of her animals. Her favorite season was the Fall, when she enjoyed watching deer and other wildlife on the farm. She loved flowers, roses most of all, with yellow ones being her very favorite. She loved spending time with her god children, and they appreciated and enjoyed the time spent with her, the many memories made, and the lessons learned.
LaRue will be sadly missed, but her memory will carry on in many hearts.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, February 5th from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209, Brodheadsville. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Manuel Stivers officiating.
