Obituary for Leonard M. Borger

Leonard M. Borger, 85, of Kunkletown, passed away Tuesday, September 24 in his home.

He was the loving husband of the late Harriet J. (Hartman) Borger. They celebrated 48 years of marriage together before her passing in 2003.

Born in Fiddletown, he was the son of the late Wesley A.H. Borger and the late Florence (Smith) Borger.

He attended the Gower School, a one room school house in Kunkletown, and then graduated a year early from Polk Township High School. He then began his career working for Bethlehem Steel, and later worked as a union brick layer. Later on, he owned and operated Leonard M Borger Inc., a construction, well drilling, and trucking company, from 1960 to 2014. He was a proud supporter of community organizations and projects, such as keeping the location of Kunkletown Post Office, the Kunkletown Vol. Fire Co., the Eldred Township building, Salem St. Paul Lutheran Church, and the Western Pocono Memorial Park. He was a member the Bricklayer's Union, the Palmerton Lions Club (receiving the club's Melvin Jones Fellowship Award), Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club, the Western Poconos Vacation Association, and the Pocono Ridge Runners.

Leonard enjoyed going to his cabin, hunting trips to Montana and Colorado, his grandkids sporting events, snowmobiling with his friends, playing cards with his friends and family. racing, entertaining at home, clambakes with his hunting gang, and making his infamous "Pap's Ugly Face." Most of all, he loved taking care of his family and extended family in their later years. He also took exceptional care of his wife, Harriet, and his son, Lyle. He will be deeply missed by all of his friends and family.

He is survived by a son, Steve Borger and his wife Debbie; two daughters, Gail Borger and her husband Jeffrey, Lenna Kuehner and her husband Robert; a daughter-in-law, Robin Borger; a brother William Borger; and a sister, Faye Kibler; all of Kunkletown; nine grandchildren, Jay Borger and his wife Alyce, Ross Borger and his wife Dawn, Mark Borger, Jordan Borger, Drew Borger and his fiancée Katie, Daryl Kuehner and his wife Amber, Daniel Kuehner, Ryan Snyder, Chad Snyder and his wife Lorrie; twelve great grandchildren, Abygail, Alyzah, Ashlyn, Allison, Lydia, Madison, Ty, Cody, Samuel, Nikolas, Matthew, and Daniel. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Lyle Borger, two brothers, Gilbert and Leo Borger, a sister, Shirley Borger, and his two beloved aunts, Helen and Lillian Borger.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 29 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209, Brodheadsville. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM with Rev. Deborah Scheffey officiating. Burial will follow in St. Matthew's Cemetery, Kunkletown.
