Obituary for Marie A. McLaughlin
Marie McLaughlin peacefully flew to Heaven on June 26, 2020, having passed away in her sleep at Brookmont Health Care in Effort, PA, where she had been lovingly cared for by her wonderful Brookmont staff members over the past five years.
Marie was born April 27, 1939 in Yonkers, NY. Her parents, Frank and Elsie McLaughlin, whom Marie worshipped and adored, sadly both passed away when Marie was a young woman in her twenties.
Marie is survived by her close devoted friends and by her dear cousin.
Marie was pre-deceased by her very special life-time GTE friend Jean Merk and also by Claude Munsell, her GTE boss of many many years who was like a father to Marie. Also passing on before Marie was an important loving gentleman in her life, Joe Harper of Naugatuck, CT, in addition to her two kitties Mimi and Sam, and an extraordinary friend who visited Marie regularly, Spencer the incredible Black Lab.
In 1972 GTE relocated from New York City to Stamford, CT and Marie also moved to Stamford to remain with her beloved GTE.
Marie had a long, successful, and wonderfully happy career at GTE for over thirty years, holding positions as Secretary, Executive Assistant, and Conference Coordinator for the Telephone Operations Division, affectionately known as Telops.
After taking early retirement from GTE, Marie went to work for a Stamford non-profit organization called Junior Achievement who's goal was to prepare young people to succeed. Once again Marie loved her job and everyone loved her; she stayed on for several years and then fully retired. Marie also volunteered for a local Stamford non-profit theater company called Curtail Call. She loved those days so much.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date. Interment will be private in Fairview Memorial Park in Fairview, NJ.
