Obituary for Marjorie A. "Peggy" Kunkle (Stout)

Marjorie Ann "Peggy" Kunkle, 85, of Saylorsburg, passed away Saturday, February 17, at home.

She was the loving wife of the late Durand Laufer Kunkle. They celebrated 57 wonderful years of marriage together before his passing in 2020.

Born in Gouldsboro, she was the daughter of the late Maurice Stout and the late Catherine (Kozik) Stout.

She was a member and Eucharistic minister at St. Elizabeth's Church in Pen Argyl, PA. She volunteered at the St. Elizabeth's ministry and food pantry for many years providing food and clothing to anyone in need. Peggy was also known as the "hot dog lady" selling hotdogs in St. Joe's Church basement.

Peggy was a banker and branch manager for her entire remarkable career. She met Durand working at the Local Finance Company in Stroudsburg, and married shortly after. Their favorite pastime was dancing and singing. Their home was filled with love, laughter and music. One of the first women promoted to manager she was invited to dine in the all-male "officer's" dining room at the corporate office, a story she loved to tell. She was a wonderful role model for working women during her entire career.

In her early 50's she was diagnosed with breast cancer and was a 3-time cancer survivor. For a short time, she was the local chapter president for the American Cancer Society. She loved the annual Daffodil days.

Peggy was a loving sister, sister-in-law, aunt, wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her son Damon L. Kunkle and his wife Lea of Saylorsburg; a daughter, Lisa Kunkle-Meyers and her husband Glen of Palm Coast, FL; her grandson, David Bizousky of Palm Coast, FL; and several siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a few of her siblings.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 24, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at St. Elizabeth's Church in Pen Argyl. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM with Monsignor Thomas Koons as celebrant. Interment of the cremated remains will follow in Buena Vista Cemetery, Brodheadsville.

The Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209, Brodheadsville, is in charge of the arrangements.
