Obituary for Mary K. O'Reilly (Martin)

Mary O' Reilly, AKA Ama, age 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home October 8, 2022. She was undoubtedly welcomed Home by both her granddaughter, Grace, and our Dad, AKA Ampa, with a big bowl of ice cream!

Mary grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan and on a cross country trip to Montauk, Long Island, she met David Hanson, who six weeks later became her husband. So began the adventure of raising four children, earning a nursing degree and creating many homes along the way; Mason City, Iowa, Watertown, Wisconsin, Streamwood, Illinois, Monroe, Wisconsin, New Hampton, Iowa, Iowa Falls, Iowa, Houston, Texas, and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. David, age 63, passed on February 19, 2003.

Mary met Phil O' Reilly while still living in Hilton Head Island, SC. They "ran" off to Las Vegas and got married on July 7, 2007...7-7-07...because Mary's favorite number was 7!
They spent their next fifteen years travelling! Although Ama called Pennsylvania home, she and her husband, Phil, travelled all over the world, calling many places home. When not escaping the heat in Reeders, PA, they lived in Hilton Head, South Carolina and Galveston, Texas. And no matter where their travels took them, Ama made sure they passed by one of her grandkids homes for a visit. Her grandkids were her world!

When their days of travel drew to a close, Reeders, Pennsylvania became their permanent homebase. Mary couldn't share enough photos of their beautiful home in the Poconos with her friends and family, especially in the fall.

Mary is survived by her husband Phil, her four children: Randy, his wife Sharla and children - Pack, MJ and Caroline; Braden, and his wife Ji and daughter - Avery; Heidi, her partner Kristen and daughter - Faith; Nathan, and his wife Amy and children - Cruz and Stella; and her youngest sister Johanna.

The Memorial service for Mary will be held Saturday, November 5, 2022, at East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, at 11:15 am, with a reception immediately following in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, we know Ama would like you to make a donation to the Amazing Grace Sulak Scholarship, in honor of Her granddaughter Grace Hanson Sulak. Donations can be sent to The Community Foundation of the Lowcountry, https://cf-lowcountry.org/
