Obituary for Millard A. Lawrence

Millard A. Lawrence, 80, of Albrightsville, passed away Sunday, December 11, at home.

He was the loving husband of Thelma (Torain) Lawrence. The night Thelma met Millard for the first time, she went home to tell her mother that she just met her husband. From that point on, they were soulmates for 50 years, and recently celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary in November.

Born in Conover, NC, he was the son of the late Forrest Lawrence and the late Thelma (Smyre) Lawrence.

Millard was a mail handler in Newark, NJ, for thirty years before retiring in 2001. He was a US Army Veteran. He loved fishing, playing baseball and bowling in his younger years, and traveling with his wife. Most of all, he was a sweet, loving, and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all his friends and family.

In addition to his his loving wife Thelma, he is survived by three sons, Millard Aaron Lawrence and his wife Enid, Khalif Franklin, James Chavers and his wife Denise; two brothers, Rochus "Dick" Lawrence and his wife Celeste, Douglas Lawrence and his wife Robin; three sisters, Joyce Loritts, Norma "Pudd" Lawrence-Jones and her husband Joseph, Glenda Jolett Lawrence-Hill and her husband Jerry; grandchildren, Breahni Gimbi, A'Ryan Lawrence, Cianan Lawrence, Shakirah Williams, Ja'mese Chavers, Yakimah White, and many other grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kirk Chavers, and several brothers and sisters.

A viewing will be held on Monday, December 19 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209, Brodheadsville. Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 20 at 1:00 PM from the Woodbridge Memorial Gardens in Woodbridge, NJ. Entombment will follow the service.
