Obituary for Nettie I. Romascavage (Merwine)

Nettie I. Romascavage, of Saylorsburg, passed away peacefully in Lehigh Valley Hospital- Pocono on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at the age of 90.

She was the loving wife of the late Frank Romascavage Sr., of 57 years.

Born on August 19, 1928 in East Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of the late Marshall Merwine and the late Irene (Brong) Merwine.

Nettie was a lifelong resident of the West End of Monroe County and graduated from Chestnuthill High School in 1946. She then attended Churchmans Business School in Easton. Nettie was involved in many positions during her lifetime. She had a postal route in the 1960's and then she owned and operated alongside her husband Frank's Fashions and Nettie's Slack Shop, a sewing and manufacturing company and retailer.

She loved politics and would later go on to be elected in 1968 to be a prominent member of the Pleasant Valley School Board and continued on to be Secretary Treasurer of Chestnuthill Township Board of Supervisors from 1972 to 1981. She loved working in both her sons businesses; F.G. Romascavage DO Medical Practice and J&K Romascavage's Sewing and Embroidery Business. In 2002, Chestnuthill Township's Open Space program acquired 244 acres of land from Nettie and her husband which is now known as the West End Regional Park, which proudly displays the Romascavage name. Nettie enjoyed teaching Sunday School, vacationing to the beaches in Florida, gardening, spending time with family, and listening to Johnny Cash.

She is survived by two sons, Dr. Frank Romascavage and his wife Gloria of Brodheadsville and Jerry Romascavage and his wife Kimberly of Saylorsburg; and four grandchildren, Frank III, Stacy, Jerry Jr., and Kallie. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Warren Merwine Sr. and Francis Merwine Sr.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 23 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209, Brodheadsville. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM with Rev. David Felker officiating. Burial will follow in Buena Vista Cemetery, Brodheadsville.
