Obituary for Richard R. Hoffman

Richard Hoffman, 85, of Saylorsburg, died Jan. 11, 2020, at home under the care of his family and hospice.
He was the son of the late Emma and Victor Hoffman, of Brodheadsville, being one of the youngest of 16 children. He is survived by six siblings.
Richard was married to a wonderful wife, Barbara, who died in 2016. They celebrated 60 years of marriage. His family members are happy they are together now in eternity.
Richard was blessed with two daughters, Kathryn Villoresi, of Saylorsburg, and Susan Harrop, of Charlottesville, VA, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was an Army veteran, having served as a jeep gunner and head cook.
Richard was a member of St. Peter’s United Methodist Church in Saylorsburg.
He retired from Deichman-Walker Chevrolet in Easton, having worked there for over 50 years as one of its top auto mechanics.
For recreation, he enjoyed camping with family and traveling in his motor home. He also loved to restore old cars. Even after retiring, he could be found in his garage working on a car project. He enjoyed sharing stories with his friends about his love of fixing cars. He also loved mowing his 3-acre field in the summer!
Richard was a man of great character - always kind-hearted, sweet and able to forgive and not get angry.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18 at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, 924 Route 115, Saylorsburg, officiated by Pastor Ed Bean. The interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery, across from the church, following the service. All are invited back to the church for a luncheon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter’s United Methodist Church’s memorial fund.
