Obituary for Rita Treiber Spencer (Treiber)

Rita Treiber Spencer, 98, of Pocono Summit, passed away Wednesday, November 7 in her daughter's home, surrounded by her friends and family.

She was the loving wife of the late Walter Spencer. Before his passing in January of 2013, they celebrated 73 years of marriage together.

Born in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late Oakley Treiber and the late Grace (Nickerson) Treiber.

Rita was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ in Pocono Lake. She served as the Deacon for the church from 1972 to 1976. Rita was best described as a homemaker and an artist. She studied Master's Techniques by Taubes, worked in oil paints, watercolors, ink, tempera, and acrylics. She also had her work exhibited in many local shows and others, including a museum located in Mesa, Arizona. She also was a former operator of the Redwood Studio for many years. Some of her paintings are at least forty years old. Rita was a Charter Member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. Most of all, she was wonderful wife, sister, mother and grandmother. She will be forever missed by all of her friends and family.

She is survived by a son, Walter Oakley Spencer and wife Mary Ann of Macomb, MI; two daughters, Susan Dearden and her late husband Stuart of Warrington, PA, Grace Romano and husband Joseph of Blakeslee; nine grandchildren, Kristin, Mark, Matthew, Jennifer, Julia, Joe, Rose, Marisa, Gina; and two great grandchildren, Clay and Eisley.

A visitation will be held on Monday, November 26 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209, Brodheadsville. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 PM. Burial of the ashes will be in Doylestown Historical Cemetery.
