Obituary for Ruth C. Oakes (Gillman)

Ruth C. Oakes, 92, of Saylorsburg, passed away Monday, July 3, at home.

She was the loving wife of the late Jonathan Oakes.

Born in Queens, NY, she was the daughter of the late George W. Gillman and the late Cornelia F. (Wright) Gillman.

Ruth was a member of Effort United Methodist Church. She worked as a business office representative for the New York Telphone Company for six years, and later worked as a secretary at St. John's University in Queens, NY, for seven years before retiring in 1985. Ruth was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all her friends and family.

She is survived by a son, Dennis Oakes and his wife Alex of Ypsilanti, MI; a daughter, Nancy White and her husband Gabriel of Saylorsburg; three grandchildren, Eric John Oakes, Jonathan White, Haley White; six great grandchildren, Vera, Emery, William, Lorraine, Ada, Isaiah; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, George Gillman.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, July 8, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209, Brodheadsville. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 PM with Rev. David Felker officiating. Cremation will follow in H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.
