Obituary for Samuel Eugene Bird

Samuel Eugene Bird, 76, of Brodheadsville, passed away Friday, November 30 in St. Luke's Hospital- Monroe Campus.

He was the loving husband of Nancy Lorraine (Storm) Bird. They celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary in May.

Born in Belle Vernon, PA, he was the son of the late Demeritt Bird and the late Anna (Wisecup) Bird.

Samuel was a chemical mixer for Johnson and Diversey in East Stroudsburg for thirty eight years before retiring in 2006. He was an Army veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert. Sam was also an avid sports fan and loved his Pittsburgh professional sports teams.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Nancy Carmella and her husband Matthew of Brodheadsville, Michele Martin and her companion Michael Grohe of Palmerton; a sister, Doris Friend of Markleysburg; four grandchildren, Thomas C. Swink Jr., Miranda T. Carmella, William S. Martin, Lukas C. Carmella; and his beloved three dogs, his pug Penny, his chiweenie, Chewy, and his boxer, Harley. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Robert, Demeritt Jr., Jack, William, James, and a sister, Shirley Savage.

A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, December 7 from10:00 AM to 11:00 AM from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209, Brodheadsville. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM with Rev. David Felker officiating. The American Legion Post 927 will conduct full military honors following the service. Cremation will take place in H.G. Crematory, Stroudsburg.
