Obituary for Stewart A. Counterman

Stewart A. Counterman, 74, of Lehighton, passed away Monday, November 6, at St. Luke's Carbon Campus, Lehighton.

He was the loving husband of the late Gail L. (Stout) Counterman. They celebrated 36 wonderful years of marriage together before her passing in 2017.

Born in East Stroudsburg, he was the son of the late Grover C. Counterman and the late Sarah J. (Green) Schmick.

Stewart had numerous odd jobs throughout his life, always helping others in need. He was a landscaper for many years, and always enjoyed mechanical work. He loved the "thumbs up" on Facebook, going to Bingo with his wife, Gail, every Saturday at Diamond Fire Co., and visiting the local casinos. He adored his dogs, his 1976 Buick Skylark, and his family. Most of all, he was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all his friends and family.

He is survived by three sons, Joseph John Counterman and his fiancée Gwenda, Stewart Counterman Jr., Joseph C. Counterman and his fiancée Amanda; four daughters, Carrie West and her fiancé Robert, Kathy Mertz and her husband Arthur Jr., Mary A. Counterman, Tammy Troxell and her fiancé William; a sister, Denise Smale and her husband Dennis; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins; and his beloved dog, Bandit. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Diane Lowry, and five brothers, James, Richard, Reuben, Albert, and Walter Counterman.

A viewing will be held on Friday, November 10 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209, Brodheadsville. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Dotters Corner Cemetery.
