Obituary for Warren J. Bush

Warren J. Bush, 86, passed away Sunday, Feb. 5, at his home in Wind Gap. His wife, Judy, and beloved family members were by his side.

Warren loved hunting, and especially hunting trips to his cabin in Potter County, PA. He was active in the Boy Scouts and was an avid collector, an artful couponer, a talented yard-saler, and a much sought after square-dancing partner. He enjoyed motorcycling and traveling across the country.

Born in 1936 in Wind Gap, Warren was one of five sons of Thomas and Gladys Bush: Thomas, Harold, Raymond, Warren, and Lester. His childhood included a variety of jobs: putting up posters for the local movie theaters, game-trapping, delivering morning and afternoon newspapers, pumping gas, and washing dishes. He talked of the one traffic light in town, the Saturday-night square dances at the Blue Valley farm building, and the woods (now Wind Gap Park) across the street from the house where he and his new bride, Marie Ackerman, settled in 1963. Their son, Kevin, was born that year.

Warren graduated from Pen Argyl High Schol in 1955. He served in the US Army and was stationed in Japan, where he coordinated the repair of small aircraft for US forces in the Far East, and where he and the commander were the first to have an air conditioned office.

He worked at Blue Ridge-Winkler Textile in Bangor and BASF in Belvedere, NJ, retiring in 1998 as a dye house supervisor. He then turned his attention to real estate investments.

It was at a Lehigh Valley B&Bs square dance that Warren met his second wife, Judy Gould Barney. Warren and Judy were engaged at a dance at the Pentagon, and married at a square dance in 1992. Together, they enjoyed family gatherings, traveling, and of course, square dancing. Both were active in the B&Bs, as dancers and as coordinators. They celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in June.

Warren loved his deer-hunting trips to Potter County, moose hunting in Canada, and mule deer and antelope hunting in Wyoming. Most especially he loved the time spent with his son, his brothers, and his nephew Ron Bush of Plainfield Township.

In addition to his wife and son Kevin, of Wind Gap, Warren is survived by two stepdaughters, Janis Schachter of Northport, NY, and Linda Barney (Rodney Raughley) of Kunkletown, PA. He has three grandchildren: Jacob Hottenstein (Amanda), and Ari Schachter, all of Philadelphia, and Noa Schachter of Taipei, Taiwan. Two brothers survive: Lester, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Raymond, of Wind Gap, along with many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, February 9 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209, Brodheadsville. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM with Rev. Robin Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in Plainfield Cemetery, Pen Argyl.
