Obituary for Willie "Bill" Young Jr.

Willie "Bill" Young Jr., affectionately known as Poppy to his grandchildren, 73, of Effort, passed away on Sunday, May 21 in St. Luke's Hospital Monroe Campus.
He was the husband of Laura (Smith) Young. They would have celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary in August.
Born in Waverly, LA, he was a son of the late Willie Young Sr. and the late Sophronia (Killingworth) Young.
Bill worked as a maintenance supervisor for the MTA in New York for 25 years before retiring in 2012. Prior to that he had been employed as a painter.
Bill was a Vietnam War Navy veteran. Bill had to be busy and he was good with his hands as far as building things. He loved building speakers and collecting model trains. He also loved fishing.
He was one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son Miguel; grandchildren Solina, Kobe and Sydney; an adopted daughter, Anissa, a daughter-in-law, Rukiat; a brother Calvin; sisters, Ruth, Shirley, Rose Marie and Wanda Jean; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and his pet chipmunk, Reginald. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Waverly, a sister Carolyn, a brother, Jamie and a nephew Keith.
There are not enough words to fully express the family's heartfelt gratitude for the sympathy, love and support you all have extended to our family during this time of loss.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date. The Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209 Brodheadsville, is in charge of arrangements.
