Obituary for Henry L. "Hank" Smith Jr.

Henry L. "Hank" Smith Jr.
Henry L. (Hank) Smith

Hank was born in Passaic, NJ on August 19, 1939. He was the loving partner of Raymond DeBenedictis for the past 43 years.

Hank was raised in Clifton, NJ and attended the University of Pennsylvania where he earned his degree and became a CPA. He worked for various accounting firms in New York City and New Jersey, eventually starting his own tax accounting business in 1985 until his retirement in 2005.

Hank and Ray moved to Pennsylvania in 1991. Hank enjoyed helping others, and volunteered at Pocono Medical Center for about 17 years, as well as tutoring students in accounting at East Stroudsburg University for a number of years.

Hank especially enjoyed gardening and nature; each year his vegetable garden became larger and larger as he gave away the fruits of his labor. He also was an avid reader and loved to travel.

Hank was an active member of a Twelve Step Program, and did his best to carry the message of sobriety and serenity to many individuals over the years in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He knew that by "giving the message away," all the good deeds, caring and sharing add to his and everyone's happiness.

Hank will be missed by his family and friends. The Smith family knew him as Henry- a name he changed to Hank when he went to college since his father was Henry too, and he did not like being referred to when he was young as 'little Henry." Regardless, his brother Alan, his nieces, Andrea and Christine and their families will miss him, as well as his sister-in-law Paula and husband Darryl Battle.

We were blessed to have Hank (Henry) in our lives.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM on Sunday, August 3 from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209 Brodheadsville, with Elizabeth Blundetto officiating. A viewing will be held on Sunday from 5:00 PM until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network, P.O. Box 561, Saylorsburg, PA 18353
