Obituary for Dayton Lesh "Whitey" Hennion

Dayton Lesh "Whitey" Hennion
Dayton Lesh "Whitey" Hennion, 80, of Saylorsburg died on Monday, October 26 in St. Luke's Hospital-Anderson Campus.
He was the husband of Gertrude Alice (Buskirk) Hennion who passed away in February.
Born in Hamilton Township, he was a son of the late Stewart Buchannon and Violet Walbash (Lesh) Hennion.
He grew up in Sciota and attended school in the Stroudsburg School District. Dayton had been a concrete truck driver for over forty years, mostly for Houdaille in Stroudsburg. He retired from Skrapits in Bath in 1997. During his career, he had participated in, and proudly recalled, the rebuilding of many of the county bridges and roads following the flood of '55. He was also proud to have contributed to the rebuilding of the Penn Forest Reservoir. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. Dayton was an accomplished handyman who had built his own home and restored his 1949 Willy's Jeep for his family's enjoyment. In his younger years, Dayton enjoyed hunting and loved snowmobiling together with Gert as members of the Blue Ridge Snow-Riders. They also enjoyed square dancing and camping trips, especially to Knoebels Grove, Lake George and the beaches of New Jersey and Delaware, where he insisted on riding his bike with family at 7 AM on the boardwalk. He was especially fond of his two Pomeranian dogs, Frosty and Princess.
Dayton is survived by four daughters, Brenda Bush of Brodheadsville, Trudy Terplan of Bangor, Tracy Serfass of Kunkletown and Jodi Cogan of Effort; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Jolyne Nicole Serfass and Courtney Lynne Serfass, by a brother, Gernard "Gernie" Hennion and by a sister, Lorraine Leap.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 30 at Christ Hamilton United Lutheran Church with Rev. Scott Smith officiating. Cremation will follow in the H. G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg. A viewing will be held on Friday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service in the Lighthouse at Christ Hamilton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dayton’s name to the animal rescue organization Waggin Tails, P.O. Box 1284, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
The Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209 Brodheadsville, is in charge of arrangements.
