Obituary for Gloria J. Kreger (Beers)

Gloria J. (Beers) Kreger, was called home on December 26, 2014. She passed from this world at her home in Kresgeville, surrounded by Harold, her loving husband of sixty two years, and her family. She was born at home in 1934 to Preston and Mamie (Christman) Beers Sr. Preceding her in death were two brothers, Cleo Beers and Preston Beers Jr. and three sisters, Miriam Burkhart, Pauline Hess and Shirley Metzger. Surviving is her youngest sister, Lillian Smith (Donald) of Palmerton.

Gloria grew up on a farm in Trachsville and graduated from Lehighton High School. She met Harold when he came calling on her after seeing her for the first time at the West End Fair a week earlier. They married in August 1952 and she worked side by side with him on their family farm, as they raised four children, Sherry Watson (Jerry) of Pequea, Tod Kreger (Barbara) of Kunkletown, Ted Kreger (Sherry) of Kresgeville and Ben Kreger of Point Pleasant, NJ. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Holly Lehman (Corey), Amanda Heckman (Nick), Jared, Traci and Adam Kreger and four great grandchildren.

Gloria loved and cherished her family and Harold. Her life was always busy, whether working outside on the farm in the fields or garden, or tending to 3000 laying hens, while keeping a loving home as they raised their children and encouraged and supported them in their interests, pursuits and vocations. Gloria had many life-long friends, as does Harold, and they shared many special times with them throughout her life. She thoroughly enjoyed the trips she and Harold took after her children were grown. Gloria enjoyed helping others and for a number of years was active with the Senior Citizens Group "Young at Heart: in Kresgeville organizing activities.

A private funeral service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, if desired, contributions may be made to a charity, church or organization of the donor's choosing.

"Remember me as I was."

The Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209 Brodheadsville, is in charge of arrangements.
