Obituary for Ray L. Mackes

Ray L. Mackes, 91, of Saylorsburg, passed away Wednesday, September 5 in his home surrounded by his family.

He was the loving husband of the late Doris F. (Possinger) Mackes. They celebrated over 50 years of marriage together.

Born in Sciota, he was the son of the late Charles Mackes and the late Lulu (Kresge) Mackes.

In his early years, Ray helped his father in the family Sawmill business around the Saylorsburg area, and then began working for PennDOT. Later on, he was the former Hamilton Township Supervisor, and also worked for E.F. Possinger. He also was a farmer throughout his career for many years. Ray was also a member of the Pocono Old Tyme Farm Equipment Association.

He is survived by two sons, Raymond C. Mackes and Robert L. Mackes and his wife Mary, both of Saylorsburg; a daughter, Debbie Usner and her husband Don of Snydersville; two grandchildren, Chris and Charles "Chuck" Mackes. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd and Paul Mackes, and five sisters, Ruth Albert, Eva Hoffner, Verna Hazen, Betty Marsh, and Dorothy Mackes.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 11 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763, Route 209, Brodheadsville. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM with Rev. David Felker officiating. Burial will follow the service in Buena Vista Cemetery, Brodheadsville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Luke's Hospice, 801 Ostrum St., Bethlehem, PA 18015.
