An Origional

Maam was an origional, that's for sure. I knew when my mom called me Saturday and left a message to give her a call what happened. Funny how you just know things sometimes. It was too late to call her when I listened to the message due to the 2 hour time difference between South Dakota and PA so I went onto facebook instead to confirm what I already knew. So I started to think about all of the great times we had growing up on the farm. I can remember like yesterday sitting at the kitchen table and eating my apple dumplings or rice pudding and shooting the breese. Maam and Aunt Ethel used to have fun messing up my curly hair. The phone would ring about every half hour from the "Saylorsburg Gossip Line". She knew everything going on in town. I remember Maam and Pap's anniversary party where I got a little tipsy (OK-drunk!). Going to Reeds and getting a milkshake after a long, hot day of bailing hay. Watching soap operas with her-can't believe I did that looking back now! Dallas and Falcon Crest too. Jumping out of my second story window to sneak there to watch wrestling at night. Fishing at Fenner's Creek and she is the only one who caught a fish. Tracking mud into her house to get a drink after goofing around in the woods or doing crazy things with our bikes. Giving us "shoes" when we did something wrong-which was pretty often. I used to tell her that she is out of shoes now. After I joined the Air Force, coming home and sitting at the table telling stories. Bringing my family to the farm to visit and she always gave Kellie and Trevor animal crackers-they loved it! Hugging my wife and kids like she knew them forever. Fortunately one of my last assignments was to Maryland-only 3 1/2 hours away so my family had the privledge and opportunity to get to know her and everyone else in my "second family." My mom used to say I spent more time at the farm than at my own house and I think she was right. Maam was always running around serving others before worrying about herself. That's what she did and never complained. RIP Maam-you were loved by all and will be missed!
